Scott Tilley: Writing & AI, an Ask Me Anything Session

Few topics have generated as much conversation—and controversy(!)—within the creative communities as artificial intelligence.
- What role, if any, should AI play in a writer’s creative process?
- Where/How can it be useful?
- Where does it raise concerns?
- How do writers navigate a technology that continues to evolve almost daily?
Former Guild President, Scott Tilley, returns to the Guild for a timely and highly interactive conversation on Writing & AI.
Rather than a traditional presentation, Scott will begin with a brief look at his history with the Guild before exploring AI from two sides of the writer’s desk: writing with AI, and writing for AI. He’ll touch on which AI tools writers are using and how they’re using them, questions surrounding ownership and whether AI systems “steal” our work, and the larger question of whether a machine can truly be creative.
Scott will also explore a new consideration for writers: what it means to write for an Internet where an increasing share of what we publish may be read first by machines.
From there, the floor opens to you for an Ask Me Anything session—an opportunity to bring your questions, concerns, experiences, curiosities, and of course, differing perspectives into the conversation.
Whether you have embraced AI as another tool in the writer’s toolbox, remain firmly skeptical of its place in the creative arts, or simply want to better understand what all the discussion is about, this meeting is designed to encourage thoughtful conversation and an exchange of ideas among writers.
AI is changing quickly, and the questions surrounding it are changing right along with it! Come prepared to ask, listen, share, and explore one of the most consequential topics facing writers today.
